HARDLINERS & SOFTLINERS

A UK study found doctors making best interest decisions for children were either legally focused 'Hardliners' or communication focused 'Softliners'. However, the 'Softliners' were the group found to be acting as required by the law and professional guidance, not the 'Hardliners'.

IMPACT ON ADSFOUNDATION

The concept of 'Hardliner' and 'Softliner', approaches to law, ethics and communication developed from research with UK paediatric consultants, underpins much of AdsFoundation's work. It illustrates that ethical and legal care is about good communication, relationships and values, rather than following rigid 'rules'.

Adam won many awards for his poetry and healthcare advocacy, including a Brit Writers' Award and a Health Service Journal Patient Leader Award.
